36. Qualifications for enrolment of students of University
No student shall be enrolled as a student of the University unless he possesses such qualification as may be prescribed by the Statutes.

37. Residence of students
Every student of the University shall reside in a hostel or under such conditions as may be prescribed by the Ordinances [or, as the case may be, Regulations.]

38. Degrees, diplomas and other academic distinctions
The Senate may institute and confer such degrees, diplomas and other academic distinctions as may be prescribed by the Statutes.

39. Honorary Degree
If not less than two-thirds of the members of the Syndicate recommend that an honorary degree, or other academic distinction be conferred on any person on the ground that he is in their opinion, by reason of eminent position and attainments a fit and proper person to receive such degree or other academic distinction and where their recommendation is supported by a majority of not less than two-thirds of the members of the Senate present at a meeting of the Senate, such majority comprising not less than one-half of the members of the Senate, and the recommendation is confirmed by the Chancellor, the Senate may confer on such person the honorary degree or other academic distinction so recommended without requiring him to undergo any examination.

40. Removal from membership of University and withdrawal of degree or diploma
- (1) The Chancellor may, on the recommendation of [the Syndicate, or, as the case may be, the Board of Post-Graduate Teaching and Research and the Senate] supported by a majority of not less than two-thirds of the members of each body present at its meeting, such majority comprising not less than one-half of the members of each body, remove the name of any person from the register of graduates or withdraw from any person a diploma or degree if he has been convicted by a court of law of any offence [in the opinion of the Syndicate, or, as the Board of Post-Graduate Teaching and Research and the Senate] is a serious offence involving moral turpitude or if he has been guilty of scandalous conduct.
- (2) No action under this section shall be taken unless the person concerned is given an opportunity to be heard in his defence in the manner prescribed by the Statutes.
