Bare Act
The Goa Administration of Evacuee Property Act, 1964
This Act establishes a legal framework for governing property belonging to evacuees within the Union territory of Goa, Daman and Diu. It applies to individuals known as evacuees—held to include Portuguese nationals or others who left the territory after liberation or transferred assets without authority—and their property. The legislation empowers the government to appoint a Custodian to manage, protect, and administer these assets to ensure they are not misappropriated. The core significance lies in safeguarding the economic interests of displaced individuals and maintaining public order by providing a centralized, fair mechanism for handling ancestral or held assets during periods of significant political transition.
