Bare Act
The Delhi Degradable Plastic Bag (Manufacture, Sale, and Usage) and Garbage (Control) (Amendment) Act, 2008
This environmental amendment regulates plastic bag usage and waste disposal in Delhi. It applies to plastic manufacturers, retailers, local municipal authorities, and all property owners and residents. The law bans the manufacturing and sale of plastic bags thinner than forty microns or smaller than eight by twelve inches, while enforcing strict labeling and color rules. Additionally, it mandates that citizens segregate their household waste and dispose of religious materials only in designated receptacles or Yamuna River enclosures. This legislation matters because it combats environmental pollution, prevents clogged drains, and protects waterways through stricter waste management and recycling standards.
