Bare Act
The Chhattisgarh Agricultural Cattle Preservation Act, 2004
The Chhattisgarh Agricultural Cattle Preservation Act regulates and prohibits the slaughter, transport, sale, and beef possession of agricultural cattle, including cows, bulls, and buffaloes, within the state. Applying to anyone residing in or traveling through Chhattisgarh, this law bans harming these animals or moving them for slaughter. It matters because it imposes strict penalties, including up to seven years in prison and heavy fines, while making offenses non-bailable and placing the burden of proof on the accused. This significantly impacts local agricultural practices, trade, transport industries, and individual dietary choices through strict state level animal welfare enforcement and vehicle confiscation.
