General20124 sections
The Bihar Public Land Encroachment Amendment Act, 2012 regulates the illegal occupation of public land throughout the state of Bihar. It applies to any individual or group who encroaches on public property and fails to comply with removal orders issued by the government's authorized Collector. This legislation matters because it significantly strengthens enforcement. Under the newly updated law, refusing to vacate encroached public land is now a criminal offense punishable by up to one year of imprisonment, a maximum fine of twenty thousand rupees, or both, making it much easier for state authorities to successfully reclaim and protect public spaces.
