The Andhra Pradesh Land Reforms (Ceiling on Agricultural Holdings) Act, 1973
The Andhra Pradesh Land Reforms (Ceiling on Agricultural Holdings) Act, 1973
The Andhra Pradesh Land Reforms (Ceiling on Agricultural Holdings) Act, 1973 establishes legal upper limits on the amount of agricultural land an individual or family unit can own in Andhra Pradesh. It requires landholders with holdings exceeding the prescribed standard ceiling area to surrender their excess land to the state government. The government then redistributes this vested surplus land to landless agricultural laborers, protected tenants, and marginalized families for farming or house construction. By preventing the concentration of land ownership in a few hands, this legislation promotes economic equality, supports rural livelihoods, and advances social welfare across the state.
