The West Bengal Lokayukta (Amendment) Act, 2023

General20233 sections

This Act updates the West Bengal Lokayukta Act of 2003 to set the term of the Lokayukta, the state's ombudsman who fights corruption and maladministration, at three years or until the age of seventy, whichever occurs first. The Governor may extend this term, but the incumbent cannot exceed seventy years of age during the extended period. The legislation also defines strict consequences for a former Lokayukta who leaves office, making them ineligible for any future appointment or employment under the state government or public bodies, corporations, or universities.
