THE UTTARAKHAND OFFICIAL LANGUAGE ACT, 2009
The Uttarakand Official Language Act
The Uttarakhand Official Language Act, 2009 establishes Hindi written in the Devanagari script as the primary official language for the state of Uttarakhand. It applies to all official government functions, legislative ordinances, administrative orders, notifications, rules, and regulations issued within the state. Additionally, the Act allows the state government to permit the use of international numerals alongside Hindi and designates Sanskrit as a second official language for specific public purposes as notified by the government. By formally replacing the older Uttar Pradesh law, this legislation ensures clarity, cultural representation, and efficient governance in administrative and legal matters for the residents of Uttarakhand.
