Chapter 1 PRELIMINARY

(1) This Act may be called the Gairsain Development Council Act, 2014. (2) It shall extend to the Gairsain development block of Pauri Garhwal district and Chaukhutia development block area of Almora district. (3) It shall come into force at once.

In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires- (a) "Council" means the Uttarakhand State Gairsain Development Council constituted under sub-section (1) of section 4; (b) "Prescribed" means prescribed by rules made under this Act; (c) "Government" means the Government of the State of Uttarakhand; (d) "Chairman" means the Chairman of the Gairsain Development Council and includes its members; (e) "Co-chairman" means the Co-chairman of the Gairsain Development Council; (f) "Financial Year" means the year commencing from the first day of April and ending on the 31st March of the next calendar year; (g) "Chief Executive Officer" means the Chief Executive Officer of the Council; (h) "Infrastructure development" means planning and implementation of all schemes related to infrastructure development such as roads, electricity, sanitation, water conservation and arrangements for other civic amenities and essential services.
