This Act gives legal effect in India to the agreement among the eight SAARC member countries to set up the South Asian University. It incorporates the University, sets out its objectives, powers, officers and authorities, and gives its President and academic staff certain privileges and immunities. The University is open to all persons, and is governed by a Governing Board, an Executive Council and an Academic Council under its own Statutes, Regulations and Bye-laws. Disputes can be referred to the SAARC Arbitration Council.
