The Railways (Employment of Members of the Armed Forces) Act, 1965
The Railways (Employment of Members of the Armed Forces) Act, 1965
This Indian law regulates members of the Union Armed Forces when they are employed to assist with or completely take over the operations, management, and maintenance of the nation's railways. The Act applies directly to military personnel deployed to support or temporarily replace civilian railway workers. It matters because it legally provides assisting military members with the exact same powers, status, immunities, and liabilities as regular railway servants, without ever interfering with their normal military discipline. Additionally, if the military fully assumes railway operations, standard railway legislation completely ceases to apply once officially notified by the government.
