The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025
The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, bans all online real-money gaming, betting, and related advertisements or financial transfers within India, including those from offshore operators. Conversely, it establishes a national authority to promote, register, and develop legitimate e-sports and social games for education and recreation. This law applies to all game developers, advertisers, financial institutions, and players nationwide. It matters because it protects citizens, especially vulnerable young people, from the severe financial, psychological, and security risks of online gambling while supporting a safe, innovative, and economically productive digital environment for competitive and casual gaming.
