The Payment of Bonus (Amendment) Act, 2015

Labour20154 sections1 chapters

The Payment of Bonus (Amendment) Act, 2015, regulates the calculation and mandatory payment of statutory employee bonuses in India. It applies directly to salaried workers earning up to 21,000 rupees monthly, raising the previous threshold of 10,000 rupees to cover more members of the workforce. Additionally, it doubles the salary calculation cap from 3,500 to 7,000 rupees, or the appropriate minimum wage, whichever is higher. This legislation matters because it significantly expands the pool of eligible beneficiaries and increases their bonus payouts, effectively providing much stronger financial support to these lower-income workers retroactively starting from April 2014.
