Bare Act
The Transplantation of Human Organs (Amendment) Act, 2014
The Transplantation of Human Organs Amendment Act of 2014 regulates the harvesting, storage, allocation, and transplantation of human organs and tissues from living and deceased donors. This law applies to medical professionals, hospitals, tissue banks, and donor networks, as well as donors and recipients. It matters because it establishes strict consent procedures, clinical standards for certifying brain death, and hospital authorising committees to prevent illegal trading. By establishing a national registry system and imposing heavy punishments for commercial organ trading, the legislation ensures that donations are conducted ethically, safely, and transparently to help save needy patients in the country daily.
