The Telangana Private Educational Institutions Maintenance Grant (Regulation) Act, 1995
The Telangana Private Educational Institutions Maintenance Grant (Regulation) Act, 1995 regulates state financial assistance given to aided private educational institutions for maintaining their facilities. Deemed effective retrospectively from April 1978, it applies to all private schools and colleges receiving government grants-in-aid. The law empowers the government to set the percentage of teaching grants provided as maintenance grants, overriding past rules or court orders. It caps arrear claims for maintenance grants to a maximum of three years, allowing older claims to lapse, and permits the government to recover excess payments from future aid. This helps the state control public spending on private institutions.
