The Telangana Mining Settlements Act, 1956
The Telangana Mining Settlements Act, 1956
The Telangana Mining Settlements Act, 1956 empowers the state government to declare areas inhabited by mine workers as mining settlements and establish specialized Mines Boards of Health to oversee them. The law mandates mine owners to provide adequate housing, clean water supply, sanitation facilities, and medical care for their workers. Boards are authorized to build hospitals, control epidemic outbreaks, construct drainage systems, collect local taxes and fees, and inspect mining properties. By holding mine owners accountable for essential living standards, the Act protects the health, safety, and welfare of industrial mine workers and nearby residents in designated mining zones.
