This Act amends the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, specifically for the state of Tamil Nadu. It extends to the whole state and came into force on January 1, 2014. The law regulates land acquisition by adding a Fifth Schedule that lists specific Tamil Nadu enactments governing land acquisition. It also amends section 24 to provide exceptions to social impact assessment requirements for projects initiated under the older 1894 Act, particularly regarding cases where land is under litigation, compensation has not been claimed, or possession has been affected by encroachment.
