Bare Act
The Pachaiyappa’s Trust (Taking over of Management) Act, 1981
This legislation enables the State Government of Tamil Nadu to temporarily take over the management, assets, and administration of the Pachaiyappa's Trust and its associated public educational and charitable endowments. It applies directly to the trust's governing board, officers, properties, and affiliated institutions. The state stepped in due to widespread administrative irregularities and financial mismanagement by the existing board of trustees. By replacing the board with a government-appointed committee, the law aims to protect charitable public assets, ensure proper governance of historic educational institutions, and safeguard public interest until proper governance and democratic elections for the trust can be safely restored.
