Bare Act
The Tamil Nadu Sugar Factories Control Act, 1949
This law regulates the operation of sugar factories and the sale of sugarcane across Tamil Nadu. It applies to sugar factory operators, local sugarcane farmers, and state agricultural regulators. Under the statute, sugar factories must obtain state licenses to operate and adhere to production standards. To protect the supply chain, the government can designate reserved areas around factories, requiring local growers to sell their sugarcane primarily to specified factories while obligating factories to purchase it at government-fixed prices. By establishing an advisory committee and mandatory supply agreements, the law ensures fair pricing for farmers and guarantees steady raw materials for sugar producers.
