This Act regulates the medical practice of couching, which involves displacing the lens of the eye using a needle or other instrument to improve vision. It applies to anyone who is not a registered practitioner under the Tamil Nadu Medical Registration Act, 1914, and who performs, attempts to perform, or agrees to perform couching on a person, whether with or without consent. The Act imposes penalties of up to six months imprisonment or a fine of up to one thousand rupees, making the offense cognizable, bailable, and compoundable with court permission.
