Bare Act
The Tamil Nadu Estates Communal, Forest and Private Lands (Prohibition of Alienation) Act, 1947
This law regulates and restricts the sale, lease, mortgage, or transfer of communal, forest, and private lands situated within estates in Tamil Nadu. It applies to estate landholders, their agents, and parties attempting to acquire or alter the status of these lands. By requiring prior approval from the District Collector for transactions involving shared or forested land, the legislation prevents landholders from arbitrarily privatizing or liquidating community resources and natural forests. It invalidates unauthorized land deals made after specified historical cut-off dates and prescribes imprisonment or heavy fines for violations, ensuring the protection of public land rights and environmental resources.
