The Tamil Nadu District Collectors Powers (Delegation) Act, 1956
The Tamil Nadu District Collectors' Powers (Delegation) Act, 1956 empowers the Tamil Nadu State Government to delegate the legal powers and duties of a District Collector to other Revenue Department officers ranked Deputy Collector or higher. This legislation allows administrative responsibilities to be shared under state and concurrent laws, ensuring smoother and faster public administration. Even when powers are delegated, the District Collector retains authority to handle cases directly, in which case the delegated officer cannot intervene in that specific matter. Decisions made by delegated officers remain subject to the standard appeal and revision procedures applicable to regular Collector orders, and all formal delegation notifications must be submitted to the State Legislature for review.
