The Tamil Nadu Coinage (Alteration of References) Act, 1960

1. (1) This Act may be called the [Tamil Nadu] Coinage (Alteration of References) Act, 1960.
2. (2) It shall come into force on such date as the State Government may, by notification, appoint.

The enactments specified in the Schedule are hereby amended to the extent and in the manner mentioned in the fourth column thereof.

(See section 2.) Year Number Short title Amendments. 1860 XXI The Societies Registration Act, 1860. In section 19, for the words " two annas for every hundred words", the words " twenty-five naye paise for every two hundred words or part thereof" shall be substituted. 1882 XV The Presidency Small Cause Courts Act, 1882. 1. In section 71, for the words "twelve annas", the words "seventy-five naye paise" shall be substituted. 2. After section 77-A, the following section shall be inserted, namely :- "77-B. Fees to be computed to the nearest multiple of five naye paise.-In the determination or computation of the amount of fee chargeable under this Act, any fraction of five naye paise less than two and a half naye paise shall be disregarded and any fraction of five naye paise equal to, or exceeding, two and a half naye paise shall be regarded as five naye paise." • Chapter X of the Presidency Small Cause Courts Act, 1882 (Central Act XV of 1882), which includes sections 71 and 77-B, was omitted by section 2 of the Presidency Small Cause Courts, Code of Civil Procedure and Tamil Nadu Court-fees and Suits Valuation (Amendment) Act, 1979 (Tamil Nadu Act 43 of 1979). 1882 XV The Presidency Small Cause Courts Act, 1882. 3. In the Third Schedule, for the part (marked E), the following part shall be substituted, namely :- "The above scale includes all expenses, except in suits where the tenant disputes the landlord's claim, and witnesses have to be sub-poenaed, in which case each sub-poena for sums under Rs. 40 shall be paid for at twenty-five naye paise each, and at fifty naye paise each when the claim is in excess of that amount and also where processes are kept in charge of a bailiff, twenty-five naye paise per day shall be paid per man." In the Fifth Schedule*- (i) for the words " Eight annas" and " Twelve annas" wherever they occur, the words " Fifty naye paise" and " Seventy-five naye paise" shall respectively be substituted; (ii) for the words "eight annas" wherever they occur, the words " fifty naye paise" shall be substituted; (iii) for the words " Four annas", the words "twenty-five naye paise" shall be substituted. • The Fourth and Fifth Schedules to the Presidency Small Cause Courts Act, 1882 (Central Act XV of 1882) were omitted by section 3 of the Presidency Small Cause Courts, Code of Civil Procedure and Tamil Nadu Court-fees and Suits Valuation (Amendment) Act, 1979 (Tamil Nadu Act 43 of 1979). 1888 III The Madras City Police Act, 1888. (This amendment has been incorporated in the principal Act.) 1920 VIII The Tamil Nadu Elementary Education Act, 1920. Do. 1934 X The Tamil Nadu Co-operative Land Mortgage Banks Act, 1934.* Do. 1938 IV The Tamil Nadu Agriculturists Relief Act, 1938. Do. 1939 V The Tamil Nadu Electricity Duty Act, 1939. Do. 1947 XXXVI The Tamil Nadu Shops and Establishments Act, 1947. Do. 1948 XXIV The Tamil Nadu Public Libraries Act, 1948. (This amendment has been incorporated in the principal Act.) 1952 XVI The Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicles (Taxation of Passengers and Goods) Act, 1952. Do. 1955 XV The Tamil Nadu Court-fees and Suits Valuation Act, 1955. Do. TRAVANCORE-COCHIN ACTS. 1. For section 37, the following section shall be substituted, namely :- 1950 XXII The Travancore-Cochin Agricultural Income-tax Act, 1950. " 37. Tax to be computed to the nearest naye paisa.-In the determination or computation of the amount of tax or a refund payable under this Act, any fraction of a naye paisa less than half a naye paisa shall be disregarded and any fraction of a naye paisa equal to, or exceeding, half a naye paisa shall be regarded as one naye paisa." 2. In the Schedule- (i) in Part I, for items 1 to 5, the following items shall be substituted, namely :- Rate. 1. On the first Rs. 1,500 of the total agricultural income, Nil. 2. On the next Rs. 3,500 of the total agricultural income, Five naye paise in the rupee. 3. On the next Rs. 5,000 of the total agricultural income, Ten naye paise in the rupee. 4. On the next Rs. 5,000 of the total agricultural income, Twenty naye paise in the rupee. 5. On the balance of the total agricultural income, Twenty-five naye paise in the rupee. (ii) in Part II- (a) in Paragraph A, for items 1 to 7, the following items shall be substituted, namely :- Rate. 1. On the first Rs. 25,000 of the total agricultural income, Nil. 2. On the next Rs. 15,000 of the total agricultural income, Ten naye paise in the rupee. 3. On the next Rs. 15,000 of the total agricultural income, Fifteen naye paise in the rupee. 4. On the next Rs. 15,000 of the total agricultural income, Twenty naye paise in the rupee. 5. On the next Rs. 15,000 of the total agricultural income, Thirty naye paise in the rupee. 6. On the next Rs. 15,000 of the total agricultural income, Thirty-five naye paise in the rupee. 7. On the balance of the total agricultural income, Forty naye paise in the rupee. (b) in paragraph B, in the entry in the second column, for the words " TWO annas ", the words "Twelve and a half naye paise" shall be substituted. 1955 The Travancore-Cochin Land Tax Act, 1955. In sub-section (1) of section 5, for the words " three pies " the words " two naye paise" shall be substituted.
