The Tamil Nadu Aided Institutions (Prohibition of Transfers of Property) Act, 1948
The Tamil Nadu Aided Institutions (Prohibition of Transfers of Property) Act, 1948 regulates real estate owned or used by government-assisted educational, medical, and public service institutions in Tamil Nadu. It applies to managers and owners of aided schools, colleges, hospitals, libraries, and hostels. The law mandates that land or buildings acquired through state grants or transferred by the government cannot be sold, leased, mortgaged, left vacant, or repurposed without explicit state permission. Unauthorized transfers are declared legally void. If violated, the state can reclaim the property or demand repayment of its market value, ensuring public funds and subsidized assets remain dedicated to public welfare.
