This law provides special reservation in higher education for students who studied in government-run schools in Tamil Nadu from the sixth to twelfth standards. Under the Act, seven point five percent of government quota seats in undergraduate professional degree programs—such as engineering, agriculture, veterinary science, fisheries, and law—are set aside specifically for government school graduates. These students remain eligible to compete for open seats as well. By creating dedicated opportunities in professional admissions, the legislation aims to bridge the educational divide, support socio-economically disadvantaged youth, and ensure fairer access to professional careers for students from public school backgrounds.
