The Chancellor

Statutory text
- (1) The Chancellor shall be appointed by the Sponsoring Body for a period of 5
- (five) years on such terms and conditions as may be prescribed. On the expiry of the term, the Chancellor may be reappointed by the Sponsoring Body in consultation with the State Government.
- (2) The Chancellor by virtue of his office shall be the head of the University.
- (3) The Chancellor shall preside over the meetings of the Governing Body and shall, when the Visitor is not present, preside over the convocation of the University for conferring degrees, diplomas, or other academic distinctions.
- (4) The Chancellor may in writing under his hand addressed to the head of the Sponsoring Body resign from his office.
- (5) The Chancellor shall have the following powers, namely: -
- (a) to call for any information or record;
- (b) to appoint the Vice Chancellor;
- (c) to remove the Vice Chancellor in accordance with the provisions of this Act; and such other powers as may be conferred on him by this Act or Statutes made hereunder.
