The Sikkim (Repeal and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1985
General198514 sections
This law formally ends the Sikkim Bazar Committee and the Gangtok Municipal Corporation, dissolving their bodies and transferring all their powers, assets, and liabilities to the Sikkim State Government. By dissolving these entities, the State takes over the responsibility for markets and local governance immediately. The legislation also grants the Government authority to impose various taxes on property and trade, allows officers to confiscate goods from violators, and gives magistrates the power to impose higher penalties. Finally, it makes all administrative orders under the Act official and final, preventing them from being challenged in court.
