General198710 sections
The Sikkim Relief Undertaking Act, 1987 empowers the Government of Sikkim to take over the management and administration of any entity, including social, religious, or charitable establishments, if it is not functioning properly and takeover serves the public interest. The government appoints a specialized committee of up to five members to handle operations for an initial period of five years, which can be extended. Importantly, during this government control, all liabilities accrued by the previous management are suspended. This Act allows struggling public and welfare organizations to be rehabilitated while shielding their new administration from past debts.
