The Sikkim (Re-organization of Districts) Act, 2021
The Sikkim (Re-organization of Districts) Act, 2021
The Sikkim (Re-organization of Districts) Act, 2021 reorganizes administrative divisions across the State of Sikkim to improve governance and local public development. It renames the four original districts—East, West, North, and South Sikkim—as Gangtok, Gyalshing, Mangan, and Namchi, respectively. Additionally, it creates two new districts, Pakyong and Soreng, by carving them out from existing administrative sub-divisions. The Act empowers the Sikkim state government to establish, alter, or merge districts, sub-divisions, revenue circles, and revenue blocks as needed. This restructuring aims to bring government services closer to citizens, streamline public administration, and foster balanced socio-economic development throughout Sikkim.
