Bare Act
The Sikkim Advocates Act, 1981
Civil19814 sections
This law establishes who is legally allowed to practice as a lawyer within the Indian state of Sikkim. It requires that only those individuals registered as advocates under the national Advocates Act of 1961 can formally represent parties in court proceedings. Government employees and people with full-time business occupations are prohibited from practicing law unless they are personally involved as a party in the case. However, courts retain the authority to make exceptions on a case-by-case basis. Anyone who violates these rules can be fined. The act replaces a previous ordinance from 1980 while preserving any actions already taken under it.
