Statutory text
The Chancellor – (i) The Chancellor shall be appointed by the Sponsoring Body with the
consent of the State Government for a period of five years from the date on which he enters upon his office and shall not be eligible for re-appointment: Provided that a Chancellor shall notwithstanding the expiration of his term continue to hold office until his successor enters upon the office.
- (2) Any vacancy in the officer of Chancellor shall be filled within six months from the date f such vacancy.
- (3) The Chancellor shall, by virtue of his office, be the head of the University.
- (4) The chancellor shall, if present, preside at the meetings of the Board of Management and an the convocation of the University for Conferring Degrees, diplomas or other academic distinctions.
- (5) The Chancellor shall have the following powers, namely : p
- (a) to call for any information or record in connection with the affairs of the University;
- (b) to appoint the Vice-chancellor ;
- (c) to remove the Vice-chancellor in accordance with the provisions of sub-section (8) of section 13 ; and
- (d) such other powers as may be prescribed by the Statutes.
