Bare Act
The Rajasthan Tendu Leaves (Regulation of Trade) Act, 1974
General197424 sections
The Rajasthan Tendu Leaves (Regulation of Trade) Act, 1974 establishes a state monopoly over the trade and transport of tendu leaves, which are primarily used in bidi manufacturing across Rajasthan. It applies to tendu leaf growers, bidi manufacturers, exporters, retail vendors, and state-appointed trade agents. Under the law, the state government fixes annual purchase prices in consultation with an advisory committee, sets up collection depots, and strictly restricts unauthorized transport and private trading. By nationalizing the trade, this legislation aims to prevent economic exploitation of forest gatherers, ensure fair compensation for growers, and regulate forest revenue effectively.
