Part I GOVERNMENT OF PUNJAB DEPARTMENT OF LEGAL AND LEGISLATIVE AFFAIRS, PUNJAB NOTIFICATION
2. Definitions.
In this Act, unless there is anything repugnant in the subject or context,- (a) "Legislative Assembly" means the Punjab Legislative Assembly; (b) "Chief Whip" means that member of the Legislative Assembly, who is, for the time being, declared by the majority party to be the Chief Whip in the Legislative Assembly, of the party forming the Government and recognized as such by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly; and (c) "Speaker" means the Speaker of the Punjab Legislative Assembly.

3. Salary, sumptuary allowance and compensatory allowance.
The Chief Whip shall be paid a salary, sumptuary allowance and compensatory allowance as are admissible to a Minister under clause (b) of sub-section (1) of section 2 of the East Punjab Ministers' Salaries Act, 1947.

4. Rent free Government house at the State headquarter or the house rent allowance and other allowances.
The Chief Whip shall be provided with a rent free Government house at the State headquarter or the house rent allowance and other allowances, as are admissible to a Minister under sub-sections (2), (2-A), (2-B) and (2-C) of section 2 of the East Punjab Ministers' Salaries Act, 1947, and the rules framed thereunder.

6. Travelling and daily allowance to Chief Whip.
The Chief Whip shall be entitled to travelling allowance, daily allowance as per the Punjab Ministers' Travelling Allowance Rules, 1953 made under the East Punjab Ministers' Salaries Act, 1947.

7. Medical and other facilities to Chief Whip.
The Chief Whip and the members of his family shall be entitled to the same medical facilities as are admissible to a Minister under the Punjab State Legislature Officers, Ministers and Members (Medical Facilities) Act, 1965, and the rules framed thereunder.

8. Travelling concession.
The Chief Whip shall be entitled to the same facilities for travelling concession as are admissible to a Minister under section 2-BB of the East Punjab Ministers' Salaries Act, 1947.

9. Constituency, secretarial and postal facilities allowance.
The Chief Whip shall be entitled to constituency, secretarial and postal facilities allowance and office allowance in constituency, as are admissible to a Minister under section 2-BBB of the East Punjab Ministers' Salaries Act, 1947.

10. Chief Whip not to draw salary or allowances as Member of Legislative Assembly.
No Chief Whip in receipt of a salary or allowance under this Act shall be entitled to receive any sum out of the funds provided by the Legislative Assembly by way of salary or allowance in respect of his membership of the Legislative Assembly.

11. Amenities to Chief Whip.
The Chief Whip shall be entitled to have the same telephone facility, as is admissible to a Minister under sub-section (4) of section 2 of the East Punjab Ministers' Salaries Act, 1947.

12. Rank of a Cabinet Minister.
The Chief Whip shall be having the rank of a Cabinet Minister of the State Government. However,- (a) the State Government shall not meet income tax liabilities of the Chief Whip as being done in respect of Cabinet Minister of the State; and (b) the Chief Whip shall not be entitled to any discretionary grants as being given to a Cabinet Minister of the State.

13. Notification respecting the date on which any person became or ceased to be Chief Whip to be conclusive evidence thereof.
The date on which any person became or ceased to be the Chief Whip shall be published in the Official Gazette, and any such notification shall be conclusive evidence of the fact that he became, or ceased to be the Chief Whip on that date for all the purposes of this Act.
