This law amends the Prisons Act to stop prisoners from using mobile phones in Punjab. It makes it a crime to possess, operate, or use a phone or its parts like SIM cards or batteries. If caught, a prisoner can be jailed for up to one year or fined up to twenty-five thousand rupees. If the phone is used to commit a crime, the punishment is harsher, with jail time between one and three years and a fine up to forty thousand rupees. The offence is serious and can be tried by a First Class Magistrate.
