The Punjab State Legislature (Protection of Publication) Act, 1978 protects journalists, newspapers, news agencies, and radio broadcasters from legal liability when reporting on proceedings of the Punjab State Legislature. Under this law, no person can face civil or criminal lawsuits in court for publishing or broadcasting a substantially accurate report of legislative debates and activities. However, this legal immunity does not apply if the report is proven to be published with malicious intent or if the content published does not serve the public good.
