Bare Act

The Punjab Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 1997

General19977 sections

This law prohibits destroying, damaging or marking property in Punjab without written permission from the owner. It covers any writing, painting, decoration, or erection of banners that disrupt the appearance of buildings, walls, trees or other properties. Anyone who violates this rule can face six months of imprisonment or a fine of up to one thousand rupees, or both. When businesses or organizations commit these offenses, their managers, directors or managing partners can also be held responsible. The state government can also order that illegally written material be removed. This legislation strengthens the earlier ordinance from 1997 and overrides any conflicting laws.
