SCHOOLS) ACT, 1959
The Punjab Local Authorities (Aided Schools) Act, 1959
The Punjab Local Authorities (Aided Schools) Act, 1959, enables state governments to transfer management of schools under local authority control that receive government funding. Municipal committees and district boards can voluntarily transfer school management to the state, or the government can take over if authorities fail to properly run these institutions, particularly if they neglect their duties or public interest is at stake. The legislation streamlined governance of state-aided schools across the province, replacing earlier provisions with uniform rules for school administration transfer, ensuring educational continuity and proper governance of schools receiving government financial support.
