This Act enforces certain state laws within specific territories acquired by the Union of India prior to November 1, 1956. These "transferred territories" were previously part of Patiala and East Punjab States Union. By extending these old laws to the new lands immediately, the Act ensures that residents continue to live under a consistent legal framework without a gap in governance (Section 2).
