The Punjab Departmental Enquiries (Powers) Act, 1955
1. Short title, extent and commence.
(1) This Act may be called the Punjab Departmental Enquiries (Powers) Act, 1955. (2) It shall extend to the whole of the State of Punjab (including the Union Territory of Chandigarh). (3) It shall come into force at once.
2. Power to summon witnesses
For the purposes of an enquiry under the Punjab Civil Services (Punishment and Appeal) Rules, 1952, or any such rules for the time being in force, an officer conducting such an enquiry shall have the same powers as are vested in a Civil Court under the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908, while trying a suit, in respect of the following matters, namely:— (a) summoning and enforcing the attendance of any person and examining him on oath; (b) requiring the discovery and production of documents.
