Bare Act
The Punjab Ancient And Historical Monuments And Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1964
This law empowers the Punjab state government to preserve and protect ancient monuments, archaeological sites, and historic antiquities that are over one hundred years old and not under national control. It applies to property owners, occupiers, archaeological officers, excavators, and the general public across Punjab. The government can declare protected areas, acquire or manage historic properties, restrict unauthorized construction or excavation near sites, and regulate the movement or sale of antiquities. By safeguarding cultural heritage against damage, misuse, and unauthorized exploitation while ensuring public access and fair compensation for landowners, the law helps preserve Punjab's historical and artistic legacy for future generations.
