The Slum Areas (Improvement and Clearance) (Puducherry Amendment) Act, 1986
The Slum Areas (Improvement and Clearance) (Puducherry Amendment) Act, 1986
This Act amends the central slum areas legislation to establish the Puducherry Slum Clearance Board, a dedicated body responsible for managing urban renewal across the Union territory of Puducherry. It grants government authorities the power to declare overcrowded or unsanitary areas as slums and mandate necessary repairs or public health improvements from property owners. If owners fail to perform required works, the government can execute the improvements directly and recover costs from owners or occupiers. By establishing clear administrative structures, transferring assets, and defining enforcement mechanisms, the law aims to systematically improve living conditions, public health, and safety for residents in low-income urban settlements.
