This Act regulates the development of sugarcane farming in the Union territory of Puducherry. It empowers the government to levy a cess, or tax, on sugarcane consumed by sugar factories. The tax rate is set by the government but cannot exceed 70 paise per quintal. The collected funds are used to support the agricultural sector. The legislation also establishes an advisory committee to assist in the implementation of these rules and provides the government with the authority to make necessary regulations for collection and enforcement.
