The Puducherry Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act, 2000
This law regulates the display of public advertisements and prevents the defacement of public and private property visible to the public across the Union Territory of Puducherry. It applies to all individuals, property owners, and businesses operating in the region. The legislation prohibits displaying objectionable content, such as material inciting violence, obscenity, or religious hatred, as well as posting unauthorized advertisements without property owners' consent. By criminalizing unapproved postings and granting authorities the power to remove defacing marks and recover costs, the Act protects public aesthetics, preserves private property rights, and maintains public peace and social harmony.
