Puducherry Monts de Piete Institutions (Abolition) Act, 1969

(1) This Act may be called the Puducherry Monts de Piete Institutions (Abolition) Act, 1969. (2) It extends to the whole of the Union territory of Puducherry. (3) It shall come into force on such date as the Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.

In this Act, "Government" means the Administrator appointed by the President under article 239 of the Constitution.

On the commencement of this Act, the Monts de Piete Institutions set up under the Ordinance dated the 1st May, 1827 and the Arretes dated the 29th July 1907, the 9th October, 1929 and the 14th June, 1946 shall stand abolished.

No suit or other legal proceedings shall lie against the Government or any person authorised by the Government for performing any functions in the implementation of the provisions of this Act, for anything which is in good faith done or intended to be done under this Act.

(1) The Ordinance dated the 1st May, 1827 and the Arretes dated the 29th July, 1907, the 9th October, 1929 and the 14th June, 1946 are hereby repealed. (2) Notwithstanding anything contained in sub-section (1), every proceeding or transaction pending under the provisions of the Ordinance or the Arretes referred to in that sub-section immediately before the commencement of this Act shall, after such commencement stand transferred to the Deputy Collector (Revenue), Puducherry, or the Tahsildars or Deputy Tahsildars of the respective regions, as the case may be, and such proceeding or transaction shall be disposed of in accordance with the provisions of the said Ordinance or the Arretes as if this Act had not been passed.

AN ACT to provide for the abolition of the Monts de Piete Institutions in the Union territory of Puducherry and for matters connected therewith. BE it enacted by the Legislative Assembly of Puducherry in the Twentieth Year of the Republic of India as follows: --
