The Orissa Municipal Councils (Postponement of Election) Act, 1985
This law postpones the general elections for several municipal councils in Orissa, specifically those listed in the schedule. Instead of holding immediate elections, it empowers government officials such as District Magistrates and Subdivisional Officers to temporarily perform the duties and exercise the powers of these councils and their chairmen. This temporary arrangement is valid until the new elected councils take office or until December 31, 1985, whichever comes first. The legislation also repeals previous acts and ordinances related to these elections to establish a clear legal framework for the interim period.
