This Act amends the Nagaland Village Council Act, 1978, to grant legal recognition to Naga Tribal Councils established under traditional customs. It changes the principal act's name to the Nagaland Village & Tribal Council Act, 1978 and allows the State Government to provide financial assistance to these councils. The law empowers Tribal Councils to assist the government in maintaining law and order, settling disputes, and preserving peace. Furthermore, it introduces a procedure for the State Government to remove the Chairman of a Village Council if a majority of members vote for it in a special session.
