General19657 sections

The Nagaland (Requisition of Porters) Act, 1965 empowers government officials in Nagaland to temporarily draft able-bodied adult males into service as porters during declared emergencies. It applies across the entire state of Nagaland, but only in areas inaccessible by road or rail. The law allows authorities to transport essential community supplies, emergency relief items, government baggage, and security forces during public calamities, epidemics, or law and order threats. To protect workers, the statute strictly forbids discrimination based on religion, race, caste, or class, and mandates fair pay at local prevailing wage rates, making non-compliance punishable by fines or imprisonment.
