The Mizoram Municipalities (Third Amendment) Act, 2015

Infrastructure201511 of 11 sections available

This Act amends the Mizoram Municipalities Act of 2007 to improve local governance. It changes the titles of key municipal leaders, replacing "Vice Chairman" with "Deputy Mayor" and "Chairman" with "Mayor" for municipal corporations. It also allows the State Election Commission to use existing voter lists for municipal elections instead of starting from scratch. The law sets rules for holding regular council meetings, extends the time for construction permits, and gives municipalities the power to demolish non-compliant buildings. Finally, it introduces strict penalties for littering and unhygienic behavior in public areas to keep the state clean.
