Bare Act
The Mizoram Act, 1995. Essential Services Maintenance (Amendment
This law amends Mizoram's essential services framework to ensure uninterrupted public administration and community life. It applies to government employees and service providers across key sectors in Mizoram, including police, healthcare, education, transport, water, electricity, sanitation, prisons, and general state administration. The Act broadly defines essential services and prohibits strikes, unauthorized absences, overtime refusals, or any actions retarding work. To enforce compliance, senior police officers can arrest suspects without a warrant, and magistrates can conduct swift summary trials. This legislation matters because it gives the government robust legal authority to maintain vital public functions and prevent major disruptions.
