This Act lets people own individual apartments in multi-storey buildings in Meghalaya, together with an undivided share in the common areas and facilities. Apartments can be inherited and transferred. The Act sets out the conditions of ownership, compliance with covenants and bye-laws, works owners may not carry out, encumbrances, and the contents of the deed of apartment.

- 3. Notwithstanding that provision is made for sanitary, washing, bathing or other conveniences common to two or more apartments, the apartment shall be deemed to be separate and self-contained.
